About Kaboh
I am Mimí Marquina and this is how it all began
My story is a beautiful journey of creativity and sustainability that begins in my adolescence, when I discovered the magic of recycling and transforming objects. From clothes to furniture found in flea markets and containers, everything that fell into my hands became an opportunity to give them a new life.
In the 90s, together with a friend, I decided to take my passion a step further and we opened a workshop in my city. There, students arrived with their precious “junk”, ready to learn how to reinvent them. It was a golden age, where each container could hide a treasure and with a small budget, you could decorate an entire home. That experience was not only enriching for us, but also for everyone who participated, creating a space for learning and creativity.
Even though the workshop came to an end, my love for transformation never faded. I continued experimenting with all kinds of materials: bottles, cans, stones and old furniture, always looking for ways to give them a new purpose.
My passion led me to fall in love with the iconic Acapulco chair.
In 2021, I embarked on a quest to find the perfect rope to weave all the ideas that were piling up in my mind. It was a challenge, as the options I found did not meet my expectations regarding the quality of the product. My perseverance paid off when I finally found the company that joined my vision, manufacturing exclusively for Kaboh the PVC skein I needed.
It was essential that its composition used waste material from the manufacture of other products and that lead was not used. It had to be flexible and resistant to UV rays. This is how Kaboh was born, the result of my obsession with finding the best material for weaving and transforming furniture and decorative objects. Together with Maria, my daughter, we bring to “Kaboh” projects that architects and decorators, as well as individuals, entrust us with.
My story would like to be a testimony of how creativity and sustainability can intertwine and how passion can lead you to find innovative solutions.
I hope Kaboh becomes your source of inspiration.
Workshops
At Kaboh, we offer basic weaving workshops on an iron frame and more advanced ones where we can weave a lamp, stool or bench. They are taught in our creative space located in Benicasim.
If you have a space in Spain and you prefer that we teach it there, get in touch with us and we can make it feasible.
